LEGATUM PROSPERITY INDEX 2011

Social Capital – Ranked 68th out of 110 nations
Uganda displays moderate societal cohesion, with strong religious networks

According to a 2010 survey, over six out of 10 people had helped a stranger in the previous month and more than two in 10 had volunteered with an organisation, placing Uganda in the top half of the Index for both variables. However, just 17% believed they could trust others, and only 15% had made a financial contribution to charity in the previous month; Uganda places 66th and 90th, respectively, on these two variables. Potential access to familial support networks may not be strong, as only 44% of the population is married. However, with almost eight out of 10 survey respondents having visited a place of worship in the week previous to the survey, potential access to religious support networks appears very well-developed. Despite this, only 83% of people feel they have relatives or friends that they can count on in times of need.

Data is taken from the Gallup World Poll The terms ‘international’, ‘global’, or ‘world’ are used to reference the 110 Prosperity Index countries, which represent approximately 93% of the world’s population and 97% of global GDP

When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you.

The Jubilee year was a year of celebration. In ancient Israel the year of Jubilee was eagerly anticipated, and celebrated in joy and merriment. Celebration serves as the bridge between the end of one phase and the beginning of another. It is the acknowledgement of accomplishment and recognizes achievement.

Celebration can range from a simple thank you to throwing a party, there is no right or wrong way to celebrate. It can even be a simple acknowledge to one’s self that you are glad you have been able to achieve something.
