PRAYER GUIDE

ISAIAH 51:15-16 (NKJV)

15But I am the Lord your God,
Who divided the sea whose waves roared—
The Lord of hosts is His name.
16And I have put My words in your mouth; [Emphasis Added]
I have covered you with the shadow of My hand,
That I may plant the heavens,
Lay the foundations of the earth, [Emphasis Added]
And say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”

JEREMIAH 1:9,10 (ESV)

Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,
Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to break down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”

GUIDING TEXT FOR THE FASTING SEASON

ISAIAH 32:1-8

1Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,
And princes will rule with justice.
2A man will be as a hiding place from the wind,
And a cover from the tempest,
As rivers of water in a dry place,
As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3The eyes of those who see will not be dim,
And the ears of those who hear will listen.
4Also the heart of the rash will understand knowledge,
And the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.
5The foolish person will no longer be called generous,
Nor the miser said to be bountiful;
6For the foolish person will speak foolishness,
And his heart will work iniquity:
To practice ungodliness,
To utter error against the Lord,
To keep the hungry unsatisfied,
And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7Also the schemes of the schemer are evil;
He devises wicked plans
To destroy the poor with lying words,
Even when the needy speaks justice.
8But a generous man devises generous things,
And by generosity he shall stand.

MEDICAL SERVICE DELIVERY

The Uganda Health System is composed of private and public sectors. The public sector consists of government health facilities under the Ministry of Health (MoH). This sector is hierarchal and decentralized at the district level:

  1. There is a health centre II (HCII) at parish level led by a nurse that serves about 5000 people.
  2. HC III at sub-county level-led by a clinical officer that has basic laboratory services, serving about 25,000.
  3. HCIV at the sub-district level (serving about 100,00 people), and
  4. District hospitals that are referral units and are headed by medical officers – special grade (post graduate doctors).

The private sector includes private health providers (such as drug shops, private clinics and private hospitals) and private-not for profit (PNFPs) providers. The PNFPs provide services similar to the public health system and usually subsidized by government. Private providers are not aligned to the MoH service delivery system but by legislation are licensed and regulated by the ministry.

The preamble to the Constitution of the World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Uganda’s Vision 2040 proposes a paradigm shift, in which the following are key:

  1. A shift from a facility-based to a household based health delivery system with the main thrust being to empower households and communities to take greater control of disease prevention by promoting healthy practices and lifestyles. This shift will be anchored on preventive over curative health service delivery approaches.
  2. Another key health strategy is improvement of nutrition status of the population especially for young children, adolescents and women in reproductive age.
  3. Government is looking towards more Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) as well as partnerships with other developed countries to focus on building highly specialised healthcare services to treat specialised medical conditions that are currently being treated outside the country.
  4. Also in plan are to construct and equip regional hubs of excellence in each of the proposed regional cities, particularly with International and National hospitals.

The ancient Hebrew concept of peace, rooted in the word “shalom,” meant wholeness, completeness, soundness, health, safety and prosperity, carrying with it the implication of permanence: “May you be filled with a complete and perfect peace and be full of well-being, may health, prosperity, and peace of mind and spirit be upon you”. God’s plan for the nations is that, they will live in a state of shalom as they follow His ways.

SCRIPTURES FOR PRAYER AND PROCLAMATION

Exodus 23:25, 26
You shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. None shall miscarry or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

EXODUS 15:26
…“If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, your healer.”

3 JOHN 2
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul
prospers.

JEREMIAH 33:6
Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of
prosperity and security.

DEUTERONOMY 7:15
And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you knew, will he inflict on you, but he will lay them on all who hate you.

PSALM 103:1-5
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

WORSHIP JEHOVAH RAPHA, OUR HEALER

ISAIAH 53:
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.

THANKSGIVING

  • Thank God for the leadership of the Ministry of Health, National and District COVID-19 Task Forces, and all the health workers for the work they do.
  • Thank God who, through all the dedicated health workers and the medical services countrywide, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, has healed many who were sick,.
  • Give thanks for the public and private health workers and the many clinics and hospitals that provide medical services across the nation.

PROCLAMATIONS ON MEDICAL SERVICE DELIVERY

Behold, God is raising healthcare workers for our communities who will serve the populace with excellence, empathy, and in righteousness and justice. These will be well-trained and competent men and women who fear God and are not corrupt. They will not pervert justice or show partiality and will hate bribes.

The medical services in the country will be well regulated, adequately funded, and strong on community and preventive healthcare. The system of healthcare will be both accessible to all citizens and affordable. Health infrastructure and records will be digitized and private health facilities will be fully integrated in the medical delivery system.

There will be many centres of excellence in medical education, curative services and medical research in the country.

The National Emergency and Ambulance system will be operational across the country.

Uganda will once again be a global centre of medical training, healthcare delivery and medical tourism.

AMEN!
