PRAYER GUIDE

ISAIAH 51:15-16 (NKJV)

15But I am the Lord your God,
Who divided the sea whose waves roared—
The Lord of hosts is His name.
16And I have put My words in your mouth; [Emphasis Added]
I have covered you with the shadow of My hand,
That I may plant the heavens,
Lay the foundations of the earth, [Emphasis Added]
And say to Zion, ‘You are My people.’”

JEREMIAH 1:9,10 (ESV)

Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. And the Lord said to me,
Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.
See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms,
to pluck up and to break down,
to destroy and to overthrow,
to build and to plant.”

GUIDING TEXT FOR THE FASTING SEASON

ISAIAH 32:1-8

1Behold, a king will reign in righteousness,
And princes will rule with justice.
2A man will be as a hiding place from the wind,
And a cover from the tempest,
As rivers of water in a dry place,
As the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
3The eyes of those who see will not be dim,
And the ears of those who hear will listen.
4Also the heart of the rash will understand knowledge,
And the tongue of the stammerers will be ready to speak plainly.
5The foolish person will no longer be called generous,
Nor the miser said to be bountiful;
6For the foolish person will speak foolishness,
And his heart will work iniquity:
To practice ungodliness,
To utter error against the Lord,
To keep the hungry unsatisfied,
And he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
7Also the schemes of the schemer are evil;
He devises wicked plans
To destroy the poor with lying words,
Even when the needy speaks justice.
8But a generous man devises generous things,
And by generosity he shall stand.

NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS (NGOs)
&
COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS (CBOs)

NGOs were first called such in Article 71 in the Charter of the newly formed United Nations in 1945. There is no universally agreed-upon definition of an NGO. The term can encompass many types of organizations but they are typically non-profit voluntary groups or institutions with a social mission, which operates independently from government (although they may receive government funding). NGOs can be local, national, or international.

Although these terms are not necessarily interchangeable, an organization similar to an NGO may be called nonprofit, charity, non-profit organization (NPO), civil society organization (CSO), citizen sector organization (CSO), social benefit organization (SBO), advocacy organization, voluntary organization, grassroots support organization (GSO), and non-state actor (NSA). NGOs can play a critical part in developing society, improving communities, and promoting citizen participation. In Uganda NGOs have an independent national platform in the Uganda National NGO Forum (UNNGOF).

Community based organizations (CBO’s) are nonprofit groups that work at a local level to improve life for residents. They are usually staffed by local community members and tend to focus on building equality across society in areas like health care, environment, education, and catering for the vulnerable in the community. Governments often delegate some responsibilities to CBO’s and rely on them to gather local concerns, develop, plan, and help deliver solutions.

Local NGOs can provide organized platforms for citizens to take care of local needs without reverting to Government.

SCRIPTURES FOR PRAYER AND PROCLAMATION

ACTS 20:33-35
I coveted no one’s silver or gold or apparel. You yourselves know that these hands ministered to my necessities and to those who were with me. In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

JAMES 1:27
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in
their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

2 CORINTHIANS 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all
times, you may abound in every good work.

MATTHEW 25:31-46
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his
glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, …

GALATIANS 6:9-10
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

ISAIAH 58:10
…if you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted,
then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.

I TIMOTHY 6:17-19
As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

PROVERBS 28:27
Whoever gives to the poor will not want, but he who hides his eyes will get many a curse.

WORSHIP JEHOVAH THE GIVER

  • Worship and praise God who freely gives rain to all – good and evil.
  • Worship God who champions the causes of justice for orphans, widows and the vulnerable in society.

THANKSGIVING

  • Thank God for good work the is being done by NGOs and CBOs in the country
  • Thank God for the free space that is available for community initiatives

PROCLAMATION FOR NGOs AND CBOs

God is raising leaders who will work through NGOs and CBOs as platforms for socioeconomic transformation in Uganda.

There will be many such organizations addressing water and sanitation, local environmental conservation, food security, affordable housing, agricultural improvement, neighborhood revitalization, needs of the elderly, youth and vulnerable children.

Financial constrains that NGOs and CBOs face will reduce as philanthropy and generosity increase among Ugandans.

The NGO and CBO sector will be informed and possess the capacity to effectively engage in and contribute to development processes. The sector be well networked and contribute positively to the development of Uganda. It will be accountable and earn respect from government and citizens because of the positive difference it will be making to society. NGOs and CBOs will be strong contributors to equality, dignity and a more just society, especially with regard to the poor and marginalised.

In this way they will be contributors to more righteousness, justice, mercy and truth which are the foundations of God’s throne.

AMEN
